A little about Arlene...
How it all Started
Arlene (b. 1964) has spent most of her life living on, or near the farmyard she grew up on in southern Manitoba, Canada. She has always had a love for things art related, and creation of beautiful things.
Arlene began her journey in oils, switched to watercolor, then to acrylic. She also dabbles in just about any medium she has access to.
Growing into it
More recently her interest has been drifting into the field of “useable art”. This includes a clothing line and some repurposed furniture. Arlene has experience creating and teaching fine art for over 30 years. She has occasionally been heard to say that she has yet to meet a medium of artistic expression that she does not like.
Gaining Visibility
With commissioned pieces across Canada, in the USA, and few in Europe, and having won several awards at local juried art shows. Arlene’s reputation in the fine art world continues to grow. In December of 2019 she had the opportunity to be part of a pop-up gallery in Portland, Oregon with the help of a very special cousin.
Art as Honest Expression
Arlene’s expression in her art, as in her life is very honest and real. She does not hide her struggle with depression. Her art has often become a welcome, healing therapy when she feels her grasp on the world slipping. Sharing creative time with others by teaching in class and online has become of equal importance to creating and selling her art. Her driving desire is to pass on the the things she wished she had known when she first started her artistic journey.
Original and Affordable
Over the years she has accumulated many techniques and ideas from other artists as well as her own trial and error. She loves to pass these secrets of the trade on to young and old alike who have a desire to explore and develop their own artistic gifts. Her motto is “affordable ORIGINAL art”. Arlene believes that everyone should have access to beautiful works that speak to them and should not be limited to mainstream prints and mass produced art.
Language of the Soul
One of Arlenes favorite quotes is “Art doesn’t have to match the furniture…it should match your soul! As the eyes are the window to the soul, so art is the soul’s language.”
